Artisan Salomon Ruiz Goin

The artistry of Salomon Ruiz has been featured in the East Valley Tribune.

"I am a self-taught artist, dedicating myself to ceramics and craftmaking since my youth. I specialize in masks influenced by the Vicus, Moche, and Nazca cultures. I focus largely on the mix of form and color; despite a lack of formal training I have created a unique, personal style. I try to always remember my roots, while also learning from my readings and travels. Every day I hope to improve myself, and achieve a style that is both gratifying for me and for those who are interested in my work. Now that I know my art will reach many people, I dedicate all my efforts and emotion into creating pieces that will resonate in your hearts and minds. Thank you."

Ruiz uses a unique process in which he first shapes the piece by hand from clay. After firing it at a temperature of 1832^F, he applies bright enamels and gilt. The finished piece is then bathed in a coat of clear enamel, which protects and enhances the vivid and expressive use of color.
