Born in Great Britain, Gill Quarcoopome has made Ghana her home for over 20 years. 'I have been crafting leather accessories for over 25 years. I learned to tool leather under the guidance of a shoemaker in Greece, a sandal maker and a saddler in the UK. Being in Accra allows me to preserve the classic feel of cowhide leather while experimenting with the endless and extravagant selection of colorful recycled Ghanaian glass beads, old trade beads, new brass beads and antique fittings.' Gill signs her design with the 'Aya' (fern) Adinkra symbol for perseverance and endurance.
