Neide Ambrosio from Brazil
"Life is so unpredictable! When I retired I moved to Rio de Janeiro because it offers better career oportunites for my husband, a singer. But I was feeling bored and useless. I was unhappy and I didn't have any friends, I was alone all the time.
"One day I went looking for an original gift for a sick friend when I saw a woman making belts with recycled objects. I fell in love with a belt and I got talking to her. She felt compassion for me and offered to teach me how to crochet using recycled objects.
"I decided to use soda pops, so I started going up and down the beach and city streets collecting them.
"My creativity began to soar, I had so many ideas! I took my bags to the beach, and started selling them there. As people began to buy, I became more and more motivated to continue.
"I realized myself as a person and all my problems of loneliness disappeared. My creativity improved, and I started dedicating all of my time to making my products. The quality of my life improved considerably.
"I am now in a position to offer employment now to many young girls from the favelas who are unemployed and spend their time with bad companies. I am very happy to help other people getting a better life. I am also very glad that I can help the environment by using recycled items."
